Lithium iron phosphate battery is a kind of lithium-ion battery which uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the anode material and carbon as the cathode material. The rated voltage of the single is 3.2V, and the charging cut-off voltage is 3.6V~3.65V.
During the charging process, part of the lithium-ion in the lithium iron phosphate comes out and is transferred to the cathode through the electrolyte and embedded in the carbon material of the cathode. At the same time, electrons are released from the anode to the cathode from the external circuit, maintaining the balance of the chemical reaction. In the discharge process, the lithium-ion is discharged from the cathode and reaches the anode through the electrolyte. At the same time, the cathode releases electrons and reaches the anode from the external circuit to provide energy for the outside world.

On the left of lithium iron phosphate battery (LifePO4 Battery) is the positive electrode made of olivine structured LiFePO4 material, which is connected with the positive electrode of the battery by aluminum foil. On the right is the negative electrode of the battery composed of carbon (graphite), which is connected to the negative electrode of the battery by copper foil. In the middle is the membrane of the polymer, which separates the positive electrode from the negative electrode, and the lithium-ions can pass through the membrane but the electrons can’t. The battery is filled with electrolytes and sealed by a metal shell.
The electrochemical performance of the cathode material of lithium iron phosphate battery is relatively stable, which determines that it has a stable charging and discharging platform. Therefore, the structure of the battery will not change during the charging and discharging process, will not burn and explode, and even in short circuit, overcharge, extrusion, acupuncture and other special conditions, it is still very safe.
